Prevendo falta de datas em 2018, os clubes se preocupam com o calendário apertado, uma vez que, no próximo ano, será realizada a Copa do Mundo. Tanto a Conmebol, quanto a CBF, ainda não divulgaram seus calendários para o ano que vem, justamente por causa da Copa do Mundo.
A Primeira Liga de 2017 teve que ser dividida: os jogos da fase de grupos no primeiro semestre, os mata-mata no segundo, durante um período sem jogos do Campeonato Brasileiro.
Outro fato que pode atrapalhar a próxima edição, são as constantes divergências que a dentro da primeira Liga. Neste ano, Atlético-PR e Coritiba, dois dos clubes que fundaram a liga, saíram da competição por não concordarem com a divisão das cotas de TV.
O clima ruim continuou após a saída dos clubes de Curitiba. Em certo momento, alguns clubes, em discussões internas, pediram a extinção do torneio.
O contrato de realização da competição vai até 2018, mas não há nada no mesmo que impeça a exclusão ou a não realização do campeonato do ano que vem.
