Com a vitória, o Atlético chegou aos 59 pontos e garantiu a sexta posição ao fim no campeonato, nada mais do que justo, uma vez que o Galo figurou entre os seis melhores desde a 10ª rodada do certame.
De olho no jogo do Rio de Janeiro entre Flamengo x Atlético-PR, o Galo abriu o placar no início da partida. Cazares fez 1 a 0 aos 17′ minutos do primeiro tempo. Quatro minutos depois, saiu o gol do Flamengo sobre o Furacão, o que deixava para a Libertadores ainda mais encaminhada.
Mas se não for sofrido, não é Galo. No segundo tempo, o Atlético encontrou dificuldades e não conseguiu fazer mais gols e no duelo do Rio de Janeiro, veio a má notícia: o Atlético-PR virou para cima do Flamengo.
Se o Botafogo empatasse o jogo, o Galo estaria fora da Libertadores. O time carioca foi pra cima e nos minutos finais da partida, teve chances reais de gols e por pouco não deu um banho de água fria na Massa.
Mas o apito final chegou e a torcida, os jogadores e comissão técnica, comemoraram a vitória e a classificação para a 10ª Libertadores.
