Robinho quase marcou o segundo aos 28’. A bola até chegou a entrar – mas a arbitragem errou ao assinalar impedimento e tirou o que seria o segundo do Galo contra o Cruzeiro.
Veio o segundo tempo e com ele a apreensão e o nervosismo. O Cruzeiro começou melhor e aos 7 minutos empatou a partida no estádio Independência.
Mas a reação parou por aí. O Galo voltou pro jogo e com as substituições de Roger Machado, conseguiu vencer o rival e conquistar o título.
O Atlético voltou a levar perigo aos 23’, quando Cazares entrou no lugar de Robinho. No primeiro lance, o equatoriano driblou três marcadores e cruzou. Fred não alcançou. Na jogada seguinte, Marcos Rocha desarmou Rafael Sobis antes de fazer a transição ofensiva e tocar para Cazares, que encontrou Elias. Livre na direita, o volante fez valer o posicionamento mais ofensivo e encheu o pé para bater Rafael. 2 a 1.
