Com uma grande expectativa de todos após a criação do time, o Galo ficou em 5º lugar na competição. Foram 16 jogos, com 9 vitórias, 3 empates e 4 derrotas. O time ficou a 6 pontos do vice-campeão, que garantiu vaga no Módulo II em 2018.
Já no Campeonato Brasileiro de Aspirantes, o Atlético até que teve uma boa atuação. O Galo chegou até às quartas de final e foi eliminado nos pênaltis pelo campeão, Internacional, no Beira-Rio. A campanha do Alvinegro teve 6 jogos, com 4 vitórias e 2 derrotas.
