De acordo com informações do jornalista Jorge Nicola, o Atlético está próximo de fechar o retorno do lateral Mariano. Segundo o repórter, o jogador já teria acertado a oferta do clube alvinegro.
Mariano já vestiu a camisa do Atlético. Em 2008, o jogador chegou a Cidade do Galo após se destacar no Ipatinga. O lateral disputou apenas 19 partidas, quando foi demitido do clube por justa causa, após abandonar a concentração para participar de uma noitada, na véspera de uma jogo contra o Palmeiras, pelo Campeonato Brasileiro.
O interesse em Mariano não é de agora. Em abril, o Atlético já havia manifestado interesse no lateral a pedido do técnico Jorge Sampaoli.
Sampaoli e Mariano já se conhecem. Ambos trabalharam juntos no Sevilla, da Espanha, em 2017. O pedido do treinador aconteceu após a saída do lateral Patric, que foi para o Sport.
