No Atlético desde setembro de 2017, Larghi fez parte da comissão técnica de Oswaldo de Oliveira. Em fevereiro, após a partida contra o Atlético Acreano pela Copa do Brasil, Oswaldo foi demitido pela diretoria e o até então auxiliar Thiago Largui, assumia o Galo de forma interina.
Foram 32 partidas até agora no comando do Atlético. Nelas, vieram as eliminações na Copa do Brasil e na Copa Sul-Americana, além da perda do título do Campeonato Mineiro para o rival. Mas depois da tempestade veio a calmaria. Larghi colocou o Galo na vice-liderança do Campeonato Brasileiro. Ao todo, são 17 vitórias, sete empates e oito derrotas, com aproveitamento de 60,4% de pontos. Nesse período, o time marcou 51 gols e sofreu 29.
