Aos 31 anos, Roger afirma que nunca bebeu e nunca fumou, e que sua condição físicas são as melhores.
O volante deve chegar ao Galo no mês de junho. Em entrevista ao Globoesporte.com, o jogador do Ingolstadt, da Alemanha, falou da expectativa de jogar pelo Atlético. Confira:
Quais são as suas características? O que o torcedor pode esperar?
– O torcedor pode esperar raça, determinação. Isso não vai faltar. Sou um jogador de bastante pegada, jogo de primeiro volante, segundo volante, zagueiro. Sou um jogador de raça, mas tenho boa técnica também para a minha posição. Tenho boa visão de jogo também. Estou há nove anos fora, louco para voltar. O torcedor do Galo pode esperar de mim o máximo de determinação e raça. Isso não vai faltar do Roger Bernardo.
Você acompanha o Galo? Como analisa os outros volantes?
– Eu acompanho sempre o Campeonato Brasileiro, mas aqui é um pouco difícil por causa dos horários. Como estou acertado com o Atlético, procurei ficar mais a par da situação. Vejo que tem excelentes jogadores, excelentes volantes. Tem os jovens Yago e Ralph, que são excelentes. Teve a chegada do Adílson que também ficou fora do país muito tempo. Tem o Elias. O Carioca também jogou na Rússia, é um excelente jogador também. Espero poder ajudar a equipe do Galo e o professor Roger do melhor jeito possível. Onde ele quiser, onde ele achar que é meu lugar, estarei à disposição.
Não vai ter férias?
– Eu comentei isso com minha esposa, ela sabe que eu amo jogar. Falei para ela que vamos tentar ter dois dias de férias (risos). A gente deve ir no dia 23 (de maio), minha esposa faz aniversário no dia 24, pretendo passar a data com ela e com nossos familiares. Mas ainda não é certo, tem aqui também. Se a gente ficar na relegação não dá pra ir tão cedo assim (relegação é uma repescagem entre o 16º colocado do Campeonato Alemão e o 3º da segunda divisão para ver quem fica na elite). Pretendo ficar esses dias 24 e 25 de férias, depois ir o mais rápido possível pra Belo Horizonte e me adaptar o mais rápido possível ao grupo. Pretendo ir rápido, emendar, já estou jogando, com ritmo. Bom que não perco nada. Só dois dias para comemorar o aniversário dela e a gente termina comemorando em Belo Horizonte. Não pretendo perder nem 5% da preparação física. Estou bem, me sentindo bem. A gente vai emendar, mas depois a gente recompensa em dezembro.

Sobre preparo físico e mental: aos 31 anos, como se sente?
– O corpo está voltando da mesma forma que saiu, quando eu tinha 22. Eu me cuido muito. Nunca bebi e nunca fumei. A cabeça está voltando muito melhor que quando eu saí. Pelas coisas que vivi aqui fora sozinho também. Eu e minha esposa estamos sozinhos em um país que não é nosso, uma cultura que não é nossa, a gente acaba lidando com muitas coisas diferentes. Estou voltando para somar, ajudar os mais jovens que precisarem de mim e ajudar o Atlético a conquistar títulos. Quero escrever meu nome na história do Atlético.
Nunca bebeu? Nem na Oktoberfest?
– Nem lá! A gente tem que ir de vez em quando em eventos de patrocinadores, essas coisas. Na Oktoberfest eu fui. Tem até roupa de couro, temática. Foi legal pra ver a cultura deles, eles se divertem muito, é como se fosse o carnaval no Brasil. Fui só porque era um compromisso com o patrocinador, mas foi bom. Estou levando a roupa embora para deixar de lembrança e mostrar para os meus filhos.
Fale mais sobre sua trajetória profissional
– Comecei numa escolhiha na minha cidade, em Rio Claro, São Paulo, no Atlético Clube Juventus. É uma escolhiha, mas eles disputam muitos campeonatos bons, acaba que muitas pessoas veem. É um time amador, mas muito conhecido na região. Logo tive a sorte de ir para uma excelente escola, que era o União São João, um clube de Araras. Daí começou a viagem pelo Brasil e mundo. Passei pelo Palmeiras, fui emprestado para várias equipes. Tive uma sequência boa pelo Palmeiras em dois anos, com o Leão em 2005 e o Tite em 2006. Depois, por ser muito novo, deslumbrei muito, é normal pra um jogador de 19, 20 anos, em uma equipe como o Palmeiras, em São Paulo… A gente se deslumbra um pouco. Graças a Deus, o Leão me deu um toque muito cedo e sugeriu que eu fosse emprestado. Ali foi um choque de realidade: pude acordar, colocar os pés no chão e começar do zero. Tive passagens por Juventude, Guarani, América de Rio Preto… Depois, comecei realmente do zero no Figueirense, em 2008, que foi o renascimento. Em oito meses fui vendido. Virei capitão da equipe, me transferi para a Alemanha, para o Energie Cottbus em 2009, onde tive uma passagem muito boa. Foram 60, 70 jogos pela segunda divisão. Chegamos em 2010 na semifinal da Copa da Alemanha. Em 2012 eu queria sair, voltar para o Brasil, mas o Ingolstadt abriu as portas para mim. Não foi fácil, mas essa foi minha trajetória. Aqui foi onde a gente conquistou muita coisa, eu e minha esposa. Amamos a Alemanha. Mas a gente não troca nosso país por nenhum outro. Aqui ficou como uma segunda casa.

Adaptação à Alemanha
– Vim em junho (de 2009), minha esposa veio em agosto. Para mim foi complicado a língua, mas a gente se adapta bem rápido nas quatro linhas. Em um mês eu já estava conseguindo conversar sobre posicionamentos, etc. Fora de campo era complicado para se comunicar. O frio também é muito difícil. Tem que ser na raça, no sangue (risos). No jogo é tranquilo, você entra na adrenalina, nem sente. No treino é muito difícil, porque o treinador para pra corrigir, você fica meio parado, tem neve, chuva, vento. Isso foi um pouco difícil, mas nada extremo. Com comida, nenhuma dificuldade. Aqui tem muito mercado brasileiro. A gente consegue comprar arroz, feijão, as coisas nossas. É tranquilo. A comida alemã também tem muita coisa boa, dá pra mesclar bem. É um campeonato dos mais difíceis do mundo, foi um aprendizado muito grande.
Roger Bernardo está apalavrado com o Atlético por três temporadas. A assinatura do contrato será apenas na chegada do jogador ao Brasil.
