Defensor, do Uruguai, será o adversário do Atlético na terceira fase da Libertadores

O Atlético enfrentará o Defensor, do Uruguai, na terceira fase da Libertadores. Os jogos serão serão nas próximas duas semanas de fevereiro. O primeiro no Uruguai e o segundo em Belo Horizonte.

O confronto vai definir quem irá para a fase de grupos da Libertadores. Se o Atlético eliminar os uruguaios, entrará no grupo E, que já tem o Nacional do Uruguai, Cerro Porteño do Paraguai e Zamora da Venezuela.

Para chegar à terceira fase, o Atlético eliminou o Danúbio, também do Uruguai. A primeira partida foi 2 a 2 em Montevidéu. No segundo jogo, vitória atleticana por 3 a 2 em Belo Horizonte.

Já o Defensor precisou passar por duas fases. Na primeira, eliminou o Bolívar, da Bolívia. Vitória fora de casa por 4 a 2 e derrota no Uruguai por 3 a 2. Já contra o Barcelona do Equador foi na “sorte”. O time acabou derrotado nas duas partidas, 2 a 1 em Montevidéu e 1 a 0 em Guayaquil.

No entanto, o Barcelona acabou utilizando um jogador irregular na primeira partida e foi punido pela Conmebol e foi declarado perdedor do jogo por 3 a 0, resultado que ele não conseguiu reverter no segundo jogo.

Atlético e Defensor voltarão a se enfrentar após 22 anos. Em 1997, os times jogaram um amistoso no Mineirão, e o Galo venceu por 2 a 1. Foi o único confronto entre as equipes na história.
