Atlético e Cruzeiro farão novamente a final do Campeonato Mineiro. Finalista desde 2007, o Galo vai tentar o título pela 13ª vez seguida e consequente, a sua 45ª taça de campeão.
Na história do Estadual, os rivais já “chegaram na final” por 44 vezes, sendo 22 de forma direta, ou seja, quando o campeão não foi definido por pontos corridos e sim por mata-mata.
A primeira decisão aconteceu em 1931. O Atlético se sagrou campeão depois de muita confusão. Após terminar em igualdade em números de pontos com o Palestra Itália na 1ª fase, o Galo disputou um jogo de desempate e venceu o rival por 2 a 1, comemorando o 4º título de sua história e o 1º sobre o futuro arquirrival.
A última decisão de título mineiro vencida pelo Galo foi em 2017. Após empate sem gols na primeira partidas da final, o Atlético acabou conquistando o título com um 2 a 1 no Independência.
Apesar de ser o maior vencedor do Campeonato Mineiro com 44 canecos, o Atlético leva uma pequena desvantagem. No geral, em 24 oportunidades o Cruzeiro foi campeão tendo o Galo como vice. O Alvinegro conquistou o título em 20 oportunidades tendo o rival como vice.
Já nas decisões diretas, o adversário também leva vantagem. São 13 títulos contra 8 do Galo.
TÍTULO DIVIDIDO EM 1956
No Campeonato Mineiro de 1956 uma grande polêmica tomou conta da final do Estadual. Campeão no campo, o Atlético empatou as duas primeiras partidas decisivas contra o rival, vencendo a terceira, mas no segundo jogo escalou um jogador de forma irregular e depois de vencer no TJD-MG, viu o STJD mandar que o título mineiro de 1956 fosse dividido entre Atlético e Cruzeiro.
